Ashbourne News, 7th January 1916 Harry Deakin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Deakin, of Alrewas Mill Yard, Clifton. He was killed during a violent bombardment of the trenches during which a shell dropped close to Harry and his two mates. He was engaged at the telephone when the shell exploded, the newspaper report commenting 'To say that he died at his post is literally true'.
